Thursday the 24th of
April 2008 is the First Day of Summer
in Iceland. According to the old Nordic almanac, it was the first day of
Harpa, an old name for the first of the six summer months. The First Day
of Summer is always on the first Thursday after April 18th. The First
Day of Summer is a holiday and Icelanders celebrate the summer and often
celebrate the winter leaving on Wednesday evening, a day called The Last
Day of Winter.

The first courses at Tungumálaskólinn
The
first courses that will be taught at Tungumálaskólinn will be Icelandic
as a Foreign Language. We have chosen to do this as there is an urgent
need for this in Iceland due to many new immigrants that are required to
learn Icelandic. The teachers at Tungumálaskólinn have many years of
experience in teaching Icelandic as a Foreign Language both on the
Internet and in a classroom. It is our experience that learning
Icelandic on-line does have many advantages.
